ECMA, Pro Carton, the FFI (German Folding Carton Association) and 13 expert representatives from cartonboard mills and folding carton converters have drafted an updated Position Paper addressing Mineral Oil Hydrocarbons in Food.

This position paper forms the Management Summary in the Fact Sheet Mineral Oil Hydrocarbons in Food of the FFI German Folding Carton Association.

The Position Paper resolves confusion around mineral oil in foods, covering potential sources of contamination and the solutions offered by our industry for protecting packaged products against mineral oil hydrocarbons. The Position Paper clarifies that mineral oil contamination can originate from many sources along the supply chain of a product and stresses that stated limits refer to the final concentrations in food and not the mineral oil content in cartonboard or folding cartons, nor to the possible migration from the packaging into the food.
