Mayr-Melnhof Karton preparing launch of Foodboard

Following investments of EUR 50mn (USD 63.25mn) in the larger of the two paper machines at the company's Frohnleiten mill, Mayr-Melnhof Karton is to launch Foodboard in 2015. MM Karton, the world's largest producer of recycled cartonboard, developed the new board for the stringent safety requirements of the food industry. An inside coating out of natural materials protects food products from mineral oil and hormonally active chemicals. Also the fibre composition of the cartonboard was adjusted. Besides dry foods, the board can be used for fatty foods such as chocolate. According to marketing chief Horst Bittermann, Foodboard has aroused interest from food manufacturers in Europe, Asia, Australia and America.
