Germany: Folding box industry production value slightly down in 2013
According to figures provided by the German folding box association Fachverband Faltschachtel-Industrie (FFI), the German folding box industry achieved a production value of just under EUR 1.90bn (USD 2.57bn) in 2013. Production value was thus only slightly down. Production volume also decreased slightly to about 850,000 tons in 2013.
Germany is by far the largest folding box market in Europe. According to Bernd Gohlke, the German sales director of Finnish folding boxes and paper group Metsä Board, folding box producers are expected to be able to react quicker than it was the case in the past. Pharmaceutical companies e.g. meanwhile expect that the production and printing of the boxes is being carried out within the course of ten days compared to 15 days in the past. CD Cartondruck managing director Steffen Schnizer added that there is a trend towards lighter and more individual packaging.
